The icons at the bottom of our pages link to services that allow you to bookmark, share and classify stories and other information from the AFSCME.org site. Each of the services is free, but require user registration.
Descriptions of each of these services, known as “social bookmarking” sites, can be found below. More information on social bookmarking is available on Wikipedia.
Facebook is made up of many networks for individual schools, companies or regions. To join Facebook, individuals can register for a school or work network, or they can join a regional network. They can then create profiles to connect with friends, share interests, join groups, send messages, write notes and post photos.
If you are a registered user of Facebook, you can also "share" news stories on your profile page.
To register, go to: https://register.facebook.com/r.php

If you are a registered user of Google's personalized homepage, e-mail and other services, you can also save bookmarks and label them with keywords.

Users of Yahoo's "MyYahoo" service can save bookmarks to their personal page, tag them with keywords, and share them with other Yahoo! users.

On Digg, users share intersting online content by submitting links to the site. At that point, the Digg audience can vote on whether or not they think it is interesting. Articles with lots of votes, or "diggs," rise up higher on the site's main page and topical subsection pages.
Another form of social sharing, this site also lets users categorize the content they are submitting to Digg and label it with descriptions of up to 350 characters. Digg users can also submit comments on each content item submitted to the site.
To register, go to: http://digg.com/register

Del.icio.us allows users to save bookmarks online with the added ability to "tag" bookmarks with descriptive category names. For example, someone who has bookmarked multiple pages that deal with the Employee Free Choice Act could tag those links with terms like "union," "workers rights," "EFCA," etc.
As members of a "social bookmarking" community, del.icio.us users can also see how many other people have bookmarked the same pages, and they can view those users' bookmark collections to find other interesting online content.
